A large group of people gathered together inside, holding a banner that reads 'aaup' and 'American Association of University Professors,' with many raising their fists and smiling.

About AAUP & AFT

Founded in 1915, the American Association of University Professors has helped to shape American higher education by developing the standards and principles that maintain quality in education and academic freedom in US colleges and universities. The AAUP champions academic freedom, advance shared governance, and organize all faculty to promote economic security and quality education.

Texas AAUP-AFT is a fast-growing, volunteer-led network of 1,500 scholars across the state on 80 campuses whose work is further supported by the 66,000 members in the Texas American Federation of Teachers (AFT).

Faculty and staff at the Alamo Colleges recently established the Alamo Colleges Chapter of the Texas American Association of University Professors (Texas AAUP-AFT). Membership has grown to more than 60 faculty and staff colleagues.

Chapter Growth

Faculty members were inspired to form a new chapter in light of statewide changes that impact academic governance, workload expectations, and freedom of expression.

We proudly joins the Texas AAUP-AFT’s 2,100 members across 80 campuses. The AAUP-AFT community is dedicated to uplifting faculty voices, fostering collaboration between faculty and administration, and advancing policies that protect academic quality and freedom.

The common good depends upon the free search for truth and its free exposition.”
